The Commission enforces all provisions of the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Act pursuant to Section 22a-36 to 22a-45, inclusive of the Connecticut General Statutes as amended and local Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations. The IWWC also:
- Reviews permit applications for any activities requiring a permit under local regulations and Connecticut General Statutes,
- Provides reports/recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission for all subdivisions and re-subdivisions,
- Determines required action to resolve violations of regulations. View the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Citation Ordinance ,
- Conducts jurisdictional reviews to determine if an activity requires a permit or is for uses termed “As of Right” or “Non-Regulated”,
- Considers requested amendments to the regulations or the wetlands map.
The Commission is responsible for reviewing applications which may impact a wetland or watercourse. The purpose of the Commission’s regulations is to minimize or prevent disturbance and pollution of the Town’s inland wetlands and watercourses, including its bogs, swamps, and marshes, as well as its lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams. All activities proposed to be conducted within a wetland or watercourse or within one-hundred (100) feet (the “upland review area”) require permits. Inland Wetlands and Watercourse locations may only be determined by a Connecticut Certified Soil Scientist.
Anyone considering undertaking a potential regulated activity should contact the Wetlands Enforcement Officer for information and requirements pertaining to any activities involving inland wetlands or watercourses.
