The Thomaston Fire Department is an all-volunteer department that provides protection and emergency response to the residents of Thomaston. The Department was organized in 1881 and has continued to be 100% volunteer-operated.
The Department consists of the Hook and Ladder Company #1 and the Crescent Hose Company #2 and strives for excellence in an industry steeped in tradition and sacrifice. Our members come from all walks of life and offer their services to the Town on their own time. The members meet weekly, constantly training on new and old skills.
The Department also sponsors a Fire Explorer Post for youth between the ages of 12-18. Explorers are trained in the various functions of firefighting duties which helps prepare them to join once they reach the age of 18. The post meets every Tuesday evening at the firehouse. Applications can be picked up on Tuesday evenings or can be obtained through the guidance counselor at the school.
The Department is also supported by a Ladies Auxiliary group that provides support for many department activities, including major fire calls where refreshments are needed.
To join the Fire Department, stop by the firehouse on any Monday evening and ask for an application.
The Fire Chief is Jim O'Neil, along with 1st Assistant Chief Glenn Clark and 2nd Assistant Chief John Albrecht.
