Recycling Guidelines

Plastic

  • Symbol 1 Pet/Pete - Soda and mineral water bottles, ketchup bottles, peanut butter jars.
  • Symbol 2 HDPE - Milk and water jugs, detergent, bleach and shampoo bottles.
  • Not included - Styrofoam, bubble wrap, plastic bags or wrapping, toys, Recycling Symbols 3 through 7.
  • Preparation - Check for number code. Remove and discard caps. Rinse clean. Labels and neck rings okay. Don't crush.

Corrugated Cardboard

  • Double -walled cardboard shipping cartons.
  • Not included - Waxed cardboard, shoe boxes, pizza boxes, gift boxes, cereal boxes, soap boxes.
  • Preparation - Flatten. Stack and tie in large quantities.

Newspaper, magazines and other stationery items

  • Newspaper and inserts, bills and bill inserts, coupons, catalogs, magazines, stationery, paper envelopes, home computer printer paper and shredded office paper.  Just add these acceptable materials to your recycled newspapers.
  • Not included - Books of any kind, products or samples sent through the mail, greeting cards, gift wrap and overnight express (Tyvek) envelopes.
  • Preparation - Ties stacks of newspaper with string or bundle in brown paper grocery bags.

Metal cans and food containers

  • Tin and aluminum cans and food wraps, such as soup and vegetable cans, pie plates and aluminum foil.
  • Not included - Scrap metal, toasters, pots, pans, hangers, aerosols
  • Preparation - Rinse clean.

Glass

  • Clear, brown and green food and beverage containers, such as soda, juice and wine bottles, mayonnaise and jelly jars.
  • Not included - Drinking glass, light bulbs, ceramics, window glass, mirror glass.
  • Preparation - Discard lids. Rinse clean. Labels and neck rings okay.
