First Selectman's Column

Hello fellow Thomastonians. We are still immersed in the budget process and will soon be voting at a referendum on the future of Thomaston. We in government have worked extremely hard to provide an affordable plan to maintain the current level of services for our citizens. We hope that you will agree. Our recycling efforts are paying off as we continue to reduce solid waste by increasing the tonnage that we recycle. Such action finds us greener both environmentally as well as financially. We continue to move forward on the issues concerning the Thomaston Opera House. The commission has formed a subcommittee, Strategic Planning, that has been charged with coming forward with a plan to accomplish the goals outlined by the Board of Selectmen and the Opera House Commission. We look forward to a resolution within the next fiscal year. The Thomaston Track Committee continues to work hard toward the creation of an athletic facility for use by students and the public in general. They are currently organizing a triathlon event that will serve as a fund raiser toward this end. Lastly, the Economic Development Commission can now boast of having successfully assisted four businesses, with the help of the TIP program, to expand in Thomaston.  I will look to update this column quarterly or sooner if events dictate.
                                                                                                                                     Sincerely,
                                                                                                                                      Edmond V. Mone
